The General Assembly will reconvene in Richmond today following the governor’s veto of a redistricting bill this month. Republican Bob McDonnell didn’t like how the Democratic-led Senate drew its districts, saying the bill could violate state and federal laws. The governor rejected the lawmakers’ plan earlier this month and now they must decide if they or the courts will determine how to carve up the state’s legislative districts. Even Republicans are saying redistricting might now drag on for months, end up in the courts, and possibly delay an August primary election.
