Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is taking on the federal government seeking a swift review and approval of Virginia’s newly redrawn legislative districts. Cuccinelli filed a “pre-clearance suit” Tuesday in federal court in Washington, D.C. He submitted the newly created maps for the state’s 140 legislative districts to the Justice Department. The litigation is an effort to prod the Department of Justice to expedite its analysis required by the Voting Rights Act in time for August primaries for state House of Delegates and Senate races. All 100 House seats and 40 Senate seats are up for election this fall.
