Childhood Smoking Prevention Program Slated for Next Year

According to The Food and Drug Administration nearly 35-hundred kids every day in the U.S. try their first cigarette — 850 of them will become daily smokers. Now the FDA plans to spend $600 million over five years to educate the public about the dangers of tobacco use. The head of the Center for Tobacco Products says the multimedia educational campaigns are aimed at reducing the death and disease caused by tobacco. The campaigns are in partnership with other public health efforts including new graphic warning labels set to appear on cigarette packs late next year.
