Uranium Forum Underway Today

A forum in Richmond will size up the issue of uranium mining in the state with a program that will examine various aspects of opening a rich deposit of the radioactive ore in Southside Virginia. Virginia has had a moratorium on uranium mining since 1982. Virginia Uranium Inc. is proposing to mine a 119-million-pound deposit in Pittsylvania County but it will need the General Assembly to lift the mining ban. Today’s event will include panels on the economic and environmental impacts of uranium mining and panelists representing both sides of the issue
