Fatal Shooting Involves Farmville Police

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal shooting involving police. Farmville Police were on the lookout for an armed man who had recently been involved in a domestic situation and was not allowed to have a gun. Officers stopped the man’s car, and he fled, firing a shot at a pursuing officer. The pursuit continued into Prince Edward County, where the suspect stopped and got out of his car with a handgun. Farmville Police opened fire, as did the suspect. William Wingfield Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt.
