Lynchburg Kicks off Region-Wide 100 Mile Challenge
A Press Conference and Corporate Champions Rally announcing details and ways to participate in the Region-Wide 100 Mile Challenge will be held from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 11 in City Council Chamber at Lynchburg City Hall, 900 Church Street, and YOU are invited!
The 100 Mile Challenge is the first Work Healthy fitness challenge that will support the overall Live Healthy Lynchburg goal of helping area residents and organizations improve their health and lose 12 tons in 2012. The challenge is simple. Employers and their employees, as well as individuals and community groups are eligible to participate in this challenge by running or walking 100 miles from July 1 through September 30. There will be individual and corporate level prizes awarded.
At this event, important registration and communication details for the challenge will be provided. There will also be a “friendly “wager” announced between major corporations.
The Challenge is a great way to help individuals and teams prepare for the Virginia 4 & 10 Miler held in September, and aids companies with their overall health and wellness objectives.
Studies1 show that companies with worksite health promotions programs lower:
- sick leave absenteeism by 27%
- health care costs by 26%
- workers’ compensation and disability management claims costs by 32%
And for every $1 invested in wellness, companies save $5.81.
