Bedford County considers allowing chickens on residential property

Bedford County officials are discussing whether homeowners should be allowed to keep chickens.   They’re currently allowed in agricultural but not residential areas.    Yesterday planners agreed on guidelines that homeowners must have no more than 18 chickens, no roosters, and keep chickens caged or penned on at least a quarter-acre.   County staff will now come up with a proposal to be voted on by Planners and Bedford County supervisors.
