A Lynchburg monument honoring Confederate General Jubal Early has returned to its spot after a nearly yearlong absence. The city took down the 10-ton obelisk last year after a vehicle hit it and cracked its base. The city obtained permission from a neighboring landowner to move the obelisk back about 20 feet. That will provide a larger buffer from passing traffic. City officials also plan to add protective bollards to the monument’s periphery.
