One Lane Traffic Near Mall Will Continue Through May

More traffic backups and congestion between Rt. 460 and River Ridge Mall will likely continue to be a headache for motorists until next spring. The Virginia Dept. of Transportation says the completion date for the bridge renovation project on Candlers Mountain Road in front of the mall has been pushed back until May. The construction project which began in April was originally scheduled to be finished before the first of the year. But contractors found deterioration beneath the bridge that must be restored before work can continue above. As for the busy holiday season– VDOT plans to open both lanes of traffic the week before Thanksgiving through mid-January.
