State’s Elk Are Making Babies

Virginia’s new elk herd has grown to two dozen since a restoration project began in Buchanan County earlier this year. Sixteen adults and four calves were released between May 24 and June 7 from a holding corral on a reclaimed strip mine near Vansant. More calves have been born since then.
