A giant fence is going up this week along Wards Road. Intended as a safety measure, the $200,000 barrier is being built in the median stretching from Harvard Street to Atlanta Avenue. Once completed, it will look similar to the one that now sits along Wards Ferry Road. City officials say it’s meant to discourage people from walking on the highway; instead encouraging visitors to the shopping corridor to take the pedestrian bridge instead of crossing the street. The project’s engineer says most fence work won’t affect traffic and is expected to be completed by mid-November.
