It Won’t Be The Math Tests We Remember!

The Virginia Board of Education has approved new goals for closing achievement gaps in math scores. The board Thursday approved new annual measurable objectives for math that were part of the state’s application for a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind law. In the next six years, all school divisions are supposed to show math pass rates of at least 73 percent. The metrics are aimed at closing an existing gap in which white students perform better on state math assessments than black and Hispanic students and students with learning challenges.
