A Nelson County man was one of 14 crew members rescued after the tall ship HMS Bounty sank off the North Carolina coast Monday. Family members told the News and Advance that 56-year-old Chris Barksdale of Nellysford had been on the ship for the past two months working as a handyman. Crew members got into lifeboats as the ship sank and were rescued by the coast guard early Monday morning. One crew member’s body has been recovered, and the captain is still missing;
