The Campbell County Board of Supervisors last night approved a permit request, submitted by Liberty University to construct the observatory. LU is ready to break ground on the 250-thousand dollar facility which will feature a removable roof, several portable telescopes and a high-powered research-quality telescope equipped with a camera. The project, intended for LU students, will be adjacent to the school’s equestrian center in Campbell County. The observatory is expected to be operational this spring and several events based on upcoming celestial calendar are already being planned.
