UPDATE:
The man killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Campbell County Tuesday night has been identified as 59-year-old Jerry Payne. He was once a quarterback for Brookville High School. Police say Payne was driving a SUV south on Lawyers Road when he ran off the right side of the road, hit a tree and overturned. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
10/10/12: Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident in Campbell County. The accident happened last night near the intersection of Lawyers Road and Cooks Branch Road. According to troopers, the driver of an SUV was going south on Lawyers Road when he struck a tree. The SUV then went over an embankment and landed on its roof. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seatbelt.
