Reactor Investigation Is Underway

An investigation is underway by officials with Dominion Virginia Power into what caused one of the two nuclear reactors at their North Anna power station to automatically shut down earlier this week – less than a week after the unit had been restarted following repairs. A preliminary report filed one hour after the incident focused on valves that malfunctioned, quote, “for reasons unknown at this time.” According to the NRC, North Anna’s Unit One was not affected by the automatic shutdown of Unit Two and is continuing to operate at full power.
