Research shows risky behaviors climb when young drivers have peer passengers. According to a study by AAA, motor vehicle crashes ranks as the leading cause of death for teens, with the incident of fatal crashes increasing among 16- and 17-year-old drivers when other teens are in the automobile. The study examined the teen-peer factor on behaviors such as speeding, late night driving and alcohol consumption. AAA is calling for greater parental involvement and stronger graduated driver’s licensing programs to promote road safety.
