Virginia Joins The Rest Of The Mid-Atlantic In Bracing For “Sandy”

Meteorologists say it’s looking more and more likely that the remnants of Hurricane Sandy will affect some regions across the state on some level. the big storm is likely to blast most of the U.S. East Coast next week. Forecasters say the storm is so massive that the effects will be felt along the entire coast from Florida to Maine and as far inland as Ohio. Forecasters say it still all depends on the path, but as of this morning Virginia looks to be in the cone of uncertainty. Experts are encouraging residents to prepare for heavy rain, stiff winds and coastal flooding starting on Sunday– and developing further inland by early Monday and lasting through Tuesday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency advise people in the storm’s possible path to put together an emergency plan and kit. Utilities say they are alerting hundreds of power workers to be at the ready in the event of outages, and the Navy is getting ports and installations ready along the Virginia coast.FEMA officials warn that a hurricane isn’t a point on a map, saying “It’s a big storm, and the impact will be felt far from the center.”
