Cell Phone Helps Convict Armed Robber

An armed robber who left his cell phone at the scene of the crime was convicted yesterday. Prosecutors say 34-year-old Derrick Beard tried to rob the BP gas station on Old Forest Road on January 23rd, but left his cell phone on the counter when he pulled out a gun. He made off with about 18-hundred cash but police tracked him down by recent calls to his family and friends. Beard could face life in prison when he’s sentenced in December.
