About 29-thousand utility customers in Virginia remained without electricity at a time Wednesday as a result of superstorm Sandy. Most are Dominion Virginia power customers in the northern part of the state. Appalachian Power has almost 10=thousand outages, mainly in southwest Virginia. The utility says significant damage occurred to its transmissions lines. Crews are using vehicles to assess damage until it is safe to use helicopters in remote, mountainous regions. It has given no estimate on when service will be restored.
