Forest Rangers Plan Control Burn In Amherst County

The U.S. Forest Service has initiated a prescribed burn totaling 1,000 acres in Amherst County. Rangers ignited a fire this month and the burn will extend through April 30. The location of the burn is about eight miles east of Buena Vista and 11 miles west-southwest of Massies Mill, on the south side of Forest Road. Prescribed burns will only be ignited if weather is favorable and other factors fall within the prescribed parameters that optimize firefighters’ ability to control the fire.
