The Appomattox Town Council this week agreed to spend $65,000 for the purchase of a camera system to inspect sewer lines. According to the Times Virginian, the camera is needed to determine whether there are leaks or cracks in the sewer line, after the Town’s trickling filter began experiencing a spike in the flow of water entering in when it rains. In April, utility staff conducted smoke tests and inspected nine miles of sewer pipe, finding at least three places that might be contributing to the problem. Once the source of the extra water is determined then repairs can be made.
