New Trial Awarded In Mega Pot Conviction

A Hurt man convicted of growing 475 marijuana plants will receive a new trial. According to the Altavista Journal, last month, the defense attorney for 59 year old William Perrow Moon III asked the court for a new trial, claiming the judge should have dismissed a potential juror, whose daughter was an intern in the Pittsylvania County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office. Moon was found guilty of manufacturing marijuana, possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute and possessing a firearm while possessing a controlled substance. The judge granted Moon, who has been in prison since the trial, a $7,500 bond– he is expected to face a new trial next year.
