Some sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia will be gated and parkway officials are urging drivers to avoid the scenic highway until weather conditions improve. Winds, downed trees and snowfall associated with the storm Sandy have made parts of the parkway treacherous for travelers. In a news release, the Parkway Superintendent said that drivers who venture onto un-gated segments of the parkway risk becoming stranded or injured. Travel along the parkway is discouraged for at the next several days.
