Boater Safety Class Coming In January

Since 2007, the Virginia General Assembly has been establishing new boating safety education compliance requirements. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary next month will present the first boating course of 2013 for Smith Mountain Lake boaters. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries provides a free text book and supplies for the course which is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Saunders Volunteer Fire Company building in Huddleston. The recently enacted water craft operator requirement will continue to be phased in through 2016, to register for the course, and to see the new regulations visit www.dgif.virginia.gov/boating.
