A Virginia man who received a full-face transplant says he is doing well. 37 year old Richard Lee Norris of Hillsville has been regaining his speech; his face was fully transformed after being destroyed in a gun accident 15 years ago. In March, doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore performed a 36-hour marathon procedure to replace jaws, teeth, tongue, skin and underlying nerve and muscle tissue from scalp to neck. The donated tissue was provided by the Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland.
