UPDATE: New State Laws Could Make A Difference

UPDATE:
The Virginia State Crime Commission has endorsed tougher penalties for illegal cigarette trafficking as well as texting while driving.

12/5/12: The Virginia State Crime Commission is set to make some recommendations for the 2013 General Assembly today at its final meeting of the year. Among the possible proposals the panel is set to vote on include: Tougher penalties for illegal cigarette trafficking and financial crimes against incapacitated adults. Draft legislation also will be considered to allow collection of biological evidence in sexual assault cases when the victim is unable to give consent. The commission also may consider a proposal to strengthen the state’s police officer decertification law.
