The Barter Theater in Abingdon is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Barter Theatre opened its doors in June 1933 with the premise of bartering produce from the farms and gardens of the area to gain admission to see performances. In 1946, the theater was designated The State Theatre of Virginia, the first theatre to receive a form of recognition that is now in practice nationwide. Barter has been the longest running professional Equity theatre in the nation since 2006. To learn more about the theater or to see this season show calendar visit www.bartertheatre.com -
