A Bedford County native is one of two Virginia Tech professors who are this year’s recipients of the state’s outstanding scientist awards. Harold E. Burkhart is being honored for his work in forest stand management while Patricia M. Dove was selected for her work as a leading expert in the process by which animals grow skeletons. Dove grew up in Bedford County, near Huddleston, and graduated from Liberty High School. She cited Liberty High biology teacher Margaret Duncan as a major influence in her interest in science.
