There is an effort underway in the state Legislature to help undocumented immigrants get a college education. Arlington Delegate Alfonso Lopez has introduced a pair of measures which would provide in-state college tuition to undocumented students who graduate from a Virginia high school, have lived in the state for three years and have parents who have paid taxes during that same period of time. The idea is inspired by the federal DREAM Act which has been struggling in Congress for some time now.
