False Report Of Gunman Was Made In Hopes Of Heroism

Federal authorities say the student accused of falsely reporting a gunman was on the campus of the University of Virginia at Wise last Wednesday wanted to be a hero. Court documents also say 20-year-old Bryant Hairston of Martinsville also hoped that by being seen as a hero, an assault charge against him would be dropped. The UVA-Wise campus was placed on lockdown for a couple of hours after the bogus report of an armed man wearing a mask at Culbertson Hall was received.
