Community Need has outgrown the Emergency Department at Lynchburg General. According to the News & Advance, about 100,000 patients come in for emergency medical care annually. Centra officials say the 60,000 square feet space serves far more patients than other Emergency Departments in the area, meaning physicians are juggling on average 250 to 275 patients a day. At that level, the building is over capacity and patients can expect wait times to increase. Centra’s is looking at long-range plans including a new Emergency Department on the current site. Centra’s Board of Directors has already approved the plan.
