Governor Announces New Items On Education Initiatives

Gov. Bob McDonnell plans to pursue legislation that would bring staffers from Teach for America to Virginia- The nonprofit sends top college grads into tough-to-fill teaching spots in low-income schools across the country. McDonnell anticipates the program in schools across the state by the 2013-14 School Year. The series of education initiatives include other goal items such as establishing an A-F grading system and implementing the “Reading is Fundamental Initiative,” which would create additional instruction time for reading specialists to work with struggling students.
