Grant Will Fund Barn Study

A state grant may help determine if hundreds of old tobacco barns in Pittsylvania County are historical treasures. The county recently received the $7,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and it will pay for the “architectural documentation” to survey about 300 tobacco barns. The Board of Supervisors applied for the grant last September at the urging of Preservation Virginia, in order to preserve the state’s cultural, architectural, and historic heritage. The project includes photographs, site plans, and maps.
