House of Delegates Re-Appoints Gay Judge

After voting down his nomination last year, the Virginia House of Delegates is now saying yes to the state’s first gay judge. Tracy Thorne-Begland was rejected last session for a judgeship in the 13th General District Court, but was appointed to the vacancy anyway on an interim basis by the Richmond Circuit Court. Last year, House members specifically voted down the deputy commonwealth attorney because of his sexual orientation. Yesterday’s vote was 66-28.
