Justice Carrico Obituary

Former Virginia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harry Lee Carrico has died. He was 96. Justice Carrico authored the 1966 ruling that upheld Virginia state laws prohibiting interracial marraige. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned it the following year. Governor McDonnell has ordered state flags lowered to half-staff through Tuesday. Carrico is survived by his wife and a daughter. His daughter is a district court judge in Petersburg.
