Lawmakers May Have To Rethink Closing All Training Centers

Members of a House Appropriations subcommittee on Monday questioned whether the state will be able to close four of the training centers. Currently, Virginia doesn’t have a plan to care for those individuals outside of an institution such as the Central Virginia Training Center in Madison Heights. During a presentation from the state agency operating them, the head of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, acknowledged if enough families want to keep their loved ones in training centers instead of community housing, the state may have to keep another center open.
