Man Is Dead After Being Shot While Hunting

A Fancy Gap man is dead in an apparent hunting accident in Carroll County. Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries officials say 50-year-old Sanford Semones was hunting deer near Willis Gap Road just before 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day when a juvenile who was hunting with him mistook Semones for a deer and shot him to death. Weather conditions, including some light rain, plus the fact that Semones was not wearing blaze orange apparently contributed to the shooting death.
