New Bill, If Passed Would Change The Start Of The School Year For Some Localities

Lawmakers from across the commonwealth are once again pushing a bill this legislative session that would allow public schools to start classes before Labor Day. If approved, the bill would annul the “King’s Dominion law”, that was passed by the General Assembly in 1986 which prevents local schools from opening before Labor Day unless they get a waiver approving special circumstances from the Virginia Department of Education.
