Renewable Energy Incentives Will Get Phased Out

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Virginia’s largest electric utilities are proposing to repeal financial incentives for using renewable energy. Cuccinelli’s office said Tuesday that under the agreement, Dominion Virginia Power and Appalachian Power would no longer be eligible to receive bonuses called “adders” for using sources of renewable energy. According to the Attorney General, the incentives have not yielded the intended environmental goals and have contributed to increases in customer bills. A proposal will be sent to the Commission on Electric Utility Regulation.
