Senate Committee Defeats Several Abortion Bills

A Senate committee defeated a bill Thursday that would have ended state funding for abortions sought by low-income women whose fetuses have been diagnosed with life-threatening disabilities. A physician member of the committee said there were seven such abortions performed in Virginia last year. Several other abortion-related bills were defeated in the assembly; most intended to overturn abortion regulations that were adopted last year.
