Stars, Movies and Theaters of Lynchburg to be featured at Lynchburg Museum Jan. 4

As part of “First Friday,” the Lynchburg Museum, located at 901Court Street, will be open free of charge on Friday, January 4 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Museum is on the trolley route that connects participating attractions.

 

Lynchburg had a number of early theaters including the Isis, Warner, Paramount, Harrison, Academy, and Majestic. Stars such as Will Rogers, Billie Burke, Mary Pickford, Pavlova, and Minnie Pearl made personal appearances.

 

The movie, The Vanishing Virginian, premiered in Lynchburg in 1942 as it featured the Yancey family of Diamond Hill. The lead role of Captain Bob Yancey was played by Frank Morgan, who played the Wizard of Oz in the 1940 film.  Stop by the Lynchburg Museum during
