Police are searching for a car and its driver who intentionally ran down a veteran state trooper. Senior Trooper J.A. Jones was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. It happened Saturday morning in Pulaski, near the entrance to the New River Valley Airport. Jones was on foot, investigating whether a pedestrian needed help. That person had left when Jones saw the vehicle and motioned for it to stop. Investigators say the red car turned toward the trooper and hit Jones while traveling at “a high rate of speed.”
