A major component of Gov. Bob McDonnell’s education reform package has cleared two legislative hurdles. The package would allow local school boards to expand teacher probationary periods from three years to five, require annual evaluations and allow teachers or principals to be fired after one bad appraisal.
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is urging the state’s residents to contact their legislators to get them to support his transportation funding proposal. McDonnell wants to eliminate the state’s 17.5-cent per gallon gas tax and replace it with a sales tax increase of less than a penny on the dollar.
