Amherst Sheriff Proposes Better School Safety

In the wake of the school shooting in Connecticut, Amherst County Sheriff Jimmy Ayers wants to put a school resource officer in every county school and two at the high school. He also wants to add locks and security cameras at schools and pay for a new radio system for first responders. The 4-million dollar pricetag would be paid for through an 5-cent increase in the real estate tax. The proposal must still go before Amherst County supervisors.
