Appomattox School Board Looking At Retirement Options

The Appomattox County School Board, next week, will decide on a proposal that would give employees, who are eligible for full retirement, a cash incentive to retire. The Times-Virginian reports, the retirement incentive plan could save the school division thousands of dollars in their upcoming budget. The retirement incentive program would be optional. In order for school staff to be eligible for full retirement, they must be at least 50 years old and have at least 30 years of Virginia Retirement System service or have five years of VRS service and be at least 65 years old. The school board plans to vote on this voluntary retirement incentive program at its Feb. 28 meeting.
