Lynchburg City Council on Tuesday agreed to release the division’s remaining surplus of $1.14 million to Lynchburg schools. The proposal for the fund will include updating its phone systems, replenishing the health insurance reserve and saving for new textbooks or equivalent purchases. The school board’s budget request will be considered when council’s annual budget deliberations begin this spring. The schools had a $2.1 million surplus last year, of which nearly $1 million already was appropriated for capital improvements.
