Death Sentence Request Rejected

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected Virginia’s request to reinstate the death sentence of a convicted killer in Lynchburg who claimed he is too mentally disabled to be executed. Leon Winston was convicted in the 2002 shooting deaths of two people in their Sussex Street home, including a pregnant woman slain in front of her two young daughters. The case will return to the office of the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney for resentencing on several capital murder convictions.
