Four D-Day veterans to share their experiences Feb. 12

TODAY IT’S difficult to find veterans TO share their D-DAY

 

stories. On Tuesday, February 12 the National D-Day Memorial

 

OFFERS a rare opportunity to meet four D-Day veterans who

 

will share their varied experiences and their different

 

roles on D-Day.  Carter Fisher was on the USS ArkansaS,

 

WHICH participated in the bombardment of Cherbourg and

 

supportED the invasionS of Southern France, Iwo Jima and

 

Okinawa.   ON D-DAY Charles “Buster” Shaeff carried THREE

 

BOATLOADS OF TROOPS to the beach. HE continued ferrying

 

troops through July 1.  Nearly one million soldiers would

 

come ashore by early July.  Bill Overstreet was flying at

 

20,000 feet on D-Day WITH 357th Fighter Group, COMPLETING

 

over 10 MISsions during the war AND WAS shot down three

 

TIMES.  Evelyn Kowalchuk was one of 500 flight nurses AT

 

NORMANDY servING with the 818th Air Evacuation Squadron

 

evacuatING wounded troops from Omaha beach AND

 

RECEIVING MANY DISTINGUISHED awardS. on february 12, bring
