Man Struck By Van On Rt. 460 In Campbell County

Traffic was backed up at the height of rush hour while a pedestrian was airlifted for medical treatment after a wreck on 460 near Lynchburg yesterday evening. Police say at about 5:30 p.m., a Dodge van, traveling in the westbound lane, struck a man just east of the Greenview Drive exit. Troopers say the man was walking and apparently ended up in the roadway; Identified only as a white, middle-aged male, he suffered “serious injuries. According to media outlets, he was first taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, but then taken by helicopter to UVA Medical Center. Investigators are looking into how it happened, but say nothing indicates the driver of the van ever left the roadway. No charges have been filed.
